Michelle Pawson, B.Ed.

I studied Medical Sciences for two years in university before deciding that I really wanted to work with kids
and help them to understand their studies better, just as a chemistry teacher had done for me in high school.
I switched to studying education, and obtained my B. of Education degree from the University of Alberta, with a major
in music and a minor in science. After this, I continued to study musical programs to help me to teach
children music, including Kodaly, Orff and Music for Young Children. I have played the piano all my life,
and obtained my gr. 10 with RCM, and find that music gives me a sense of happiness in a sometimes stressful world.

In addition to music, I also enjoy languages, sports, biking, hiking, nature, traveling, and being with my family.
I have four kids, whom I home schooled throughout much of their school years, with the exception of grades ten through
twelve. My oldest son (20), completed a two year robotics program at SAIT and is now working part-time as a lifeguard
and swimming instructor, and attending the U. of C. part-time. My second oldest son (18) is studying engineering
at the University of Calgary. My daughter is 16, and is in grade 11 at a local high school. My youngest son (11),
is still home schooling with me, and is in grade 6. He enjoys studying both in an unstructured and structured environment.
He loves to do hands-on activities, as well as being outdoors.

I enjoy working with kids, and find that allowing kids to experience learning at home through home education,
opens up a world of possibilities to them. They have the time to explore their talents and style of learning,
which helps them become more self-confident.
